Why You’ll Love Them

I have been exploring development and creation of more keto recipes as I would like to promote healthier eating habits to the entire family. Fortunately, we don’t have anyone with special dietary needs so that makes it a little bit easier.

My children love those fried breaded cheese sticks, though, and my problem is that the one I know of a high-carb coating loaded with wheat flour. So, out I was searching for a low-carb equivalent.

I made a few attempts and finally got it correct for that recipe. However, these keto mozzarella sticks seemed right on my third attempt. The impression from my kids served enough as an indication of success on this one.

Well, in that case, I’m going to explain to you how to properly prepare fried mozzarella sticks. I will also show you some procedures regarding the cooked mozzarella sticks and the precautions for using this new device that is called an air fryer.

The Ingredients

To transform mozzarella sticks into a keto version, only a few basic items are required. More information about what I used in my fried mozzarella sticks recipe is contained here.

  • String Cheese: The string cheese of mozzarella will be used as the base or main part of these finger foods.
  • Egg: An egg is required to serve as the emulsifier to ensure which binds all the breading together.
  • Almond Flour: Use almond flour, not almond meal. It will give nice crunchy ‘belts’ to the sticks.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Grated parmesan cheese has the best advantage when it comes to breading these fried snacks since it crisps when fried.
  • Coconut Flour: Coconut flour works great with the oil to make a crunchy coating on these keto mozzarella sticks.
  • Spices: I used a combination of some Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt. For a little kick, you may add cayenne pepper into the mix.

Recipe Tips

Prepare mozzarella sticks ahead. Bread the cheese sticks, then freeze until ready to serve.

1. Cook the sticks at 375F:

If you have ever struggled with preparing these low-carb mozzarella sticks recipe, check the temperature of the oil. If the oil gets too hot, then the cheese will definitely melt down and turn into a gooey mess.

2. Use frozen cheese sticks.

If cheese sticks are available as frozen ones, it would also be great as it would help save reasonable amounts of time.

Recipe Instructions

Learning how to make low carb cheese sticks in your own kitchen is rather simple. All you have to do is, take some string cheese and cover it in a gluten free flour coating, and simply fry it till a crisp is formed. However, the coating will also be done using a carb friendly flour.

1. Coat the cheese sticks

For coating the cheese, the piece is first dipped in a beaten egg, so that the coating has something to stick to. You should do a double coating of each piece to get the nicest results.

2. Fry keto mozzarella sticks

Next, hot oil or an air fryer is used to cook the keto cheese sticks. They can also cook in an oven placed on a baking sheet, but I think the outsides are not as crunchy as the air fryer method.

3. Fry until golden brown

You will know your coated mozzarella is done frying when they turn into a yummy golden brown color.

Serving Suggestions

I always serve these low acrb mozzarella sticks with keto marinara sauce! ! Of course, you don’t have to make your own marinara; you can buy it, and when you do, make sure that the kind you buy is keto-friendly and doesn’t contain added sugars.

And, of course, I love to pair them well with my bacon-wrapped chicken tenders! Quick and easy finger foods, both low in carbs.

If you are making these as a snack for a party, then make some keto onion rings to go with them! They are yet another extremely popular finger food.

There are so many different ways you can change up the recipe for these keto mozzarella sticks. If you end up making any changes, let me know in the comments.

Using pork rind crumbs: Give them a shot as the keto breading instead of coconut or almond flour.

Cook them in the air fryer.  That makes clean up a lot easier too.

Add more spice. Try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or paprika to the coating for an extra kick.
